Clockwork City of Forbidden Gods

Gombaz, the Clockwork City of Forbidden Gods wanders the world of Lemmeth from North to South, but always heading West. It always keeps the wandering moon of Gelumiel directly overhead, such that when the petty lords of the plains see it rise above the horizon, the gather their goods to their cellars and sharpen their spears. The only blessing is that this accursed city never stays in one place for long.

Ancient City of Forbidden Gods

More forbidden gods for you!
This dungeon apparently has a blender in it. That seems a perfectly sensible thing to include in a dungeon, and yet I feel I must slightly apologize for including such an un-dungeonish thing in this setting. Of course that assumes that what appears to be a blender to our eyes is, in fact, a blender. Perhaps it is some sort of astral antennae. On the other hand, if an object is handled and used by enough people in their daily ritual in our world, who is to say that this could not create the requisite resonance to cause a divine focus in some other world.

Atomic City of the Githyanki

The Githyank build their cities near Ilithid outposts, the better to check the ambitions of their oldest foe.
Aghyth'atch, known as the Atomic City is unique among these. Neither a Githyanki construction nor a former Ilithid stronghold, it was built by unknown beings and may have wandered the Astral depths for millennia before its capture. Even now its sentient heart longs to be back on the unknown errand its creators programmed into its fiber at the dawn of time.

When you help the Atomic Heart on its mission, take +1 forward to rolls inside the city. When you hinder it, take +1 forward in dealings with Githyanki or Ilithids.

Approaching City 6

I've been thinking about this old-school Gamma World megadungeon on a huge scale. Some sections of the dungeon are loosely detailed using rough guidelines and random tables int he style of Zak Smith's Vornheim City Guide. Others are fully mapped and statted.

City 6 is an abandoned arcology that completely spans a ravine with a river flowing down the middle of it. The other end of the arcology forms a massive hydroelectric dam, but this information is probably unknown to the PCs.

The front wall of the complex is composed primarily of hab pods, each of which is a neighborhood of dwellings with room for 200-1500 inhabitants. Originally, the habs were modular, self-contained units, each with its own AI, and a layout designated by the owner. Most are now horribly broken down. The lower units have been broken into and looted, and may be inhabited by native life forms. Some of the higher units are more or less untouched.

The layout of each pod is determined by a geomorph system. The current state and contents are inspired through a set or random tables.

The habs are an obvious spot for a first adventure, although more intrepid groups might enter through the effluvium, a great pipe that leads directly into the dangerously dilapidated processing plant deep in the Microdungon, and from there to the Garden district. If a party can reach the roof (no mean feat), they also might find their way to the central dome.

Haunted

The monsters are not just in books. The haunting spirits are not just numbered encounters. They're invisible for the most part, except for to those they specifically haunt, but if you sit with a particular mode of silence, and look diligently, you'll see that they hover over every neighborhood, home, and business.

Pharos

O voyagers, O seamen,
You who came to port, and you whose bodies
Will suffer the trial and judgement of the sea,
Or whatever event, this is your real destination.'
So Krishna, as when he admonished Arjuna
On the field of battle.
         Not fare well,
But fare forward, voyagers.

Clawfoot

I don't really have anything to say about this one. I think I was renovating our bathroom when I drew it.

The Wonder

Maybe the people of this city scryed the annals of time and space and saw this wonder dimly in their orb. Or maybe this town is home to the famed Vacuum Cleaner's Guild, which has made it famous and rich. Possibly they are great believers in the greatness of ordinary tech. Or else their art is going through a richly ironic phase and this is what their choose to celebrate. Maybe they just like vacuum cleaners. Maybe it's just a joke.

Homage

Maybe not the most auspicious way to get back to the blog, but it is where many of my best ideas come from. There's room for one hell of an Otyugh in there!

City of the Ancients

The Ancients were pretty damn clever, they way. Not sure how clever they were. They built a really big city that would take care of every need they could imagine. I guess that was nice. You can still see the city. Most see it from the sea. And it looks mighty grand shining in the sunset. But get up close and it's a different story: great gaping rents, wings and towers taken by rust or decay. There are light still, in some parts. But I guess there aren't as many ancients living in there as there used to be. Wonder what is?

The Red Academy

There's a saying in the City of Forgotten Gods: "If you've got corns, pray to Dispaniel, but if you want someone dead, go to the Red Academy."

The Wreck of the Lammasu

Questions never to ask near the Lighthouse:
  • How did the Wreck of the Lammasu get there?

  • Who lives in Gondola House?

  • What's the lighthouse fore?

  • Who is Mute?

  • How come the boats stopping at the ice house never pick up ice?

If you ask these questions, the locals are likely to take it very, very ill. But if you find out any of the answers, let me know. I'll pay well to know.

The Cyanites

The Cyanites have a way of turning up every time I create an urban adventure environment. They're the guys in robes who process through the neighborhood at night with little brass bowls of cold blue fire, chanting quietly to themselves in a lost tongue. The PCs have never heard of these guys before. What they're up to has nothing to do with whatever business the PCs are currently engaged in. But if the PCs are curious enough to follow or dig deeper, they'll discover a secret that's at once strange and compelling. I haven't figured out exactly what that secret is because I've never had to. For one reason and another, my PCs have never run into the Cyanites. They remain that bit of prep that I've never needed to use. Some day.
